Maximiliano A. Soto Mayorga

Based in Freiburg, I am involved in the creation of new instrumental pieces, music theatre and collaborative creation.

Maximiliano Soto Mayorga & Nicholas Reed Deutschlandfunk

Born in 1991, he studied composition in Chile (2010-16) with Rafael Díaz Silva, Jorge Martínez Ulloa and Andrés Maupoint Álvarez, and in Germany (2017-22), with Johannes Schöllhorn. Masterclasses with Carola Bauckholt, Ramón Lazkano, Eun-Hwa Cho, Georges Aperghis and Annesley Black complete his musical studies. He has received a scholarship from the NEUSTART KULTUR 2022 programme (Federal Commission for Culture and Media), the IBERMÚSICAS 2020 residency (London, 2021) and multiple international composition awards such as the Ibero-American Ibermúsicas 2023 Ad Libitum 2022 prize (with trioNONtrio), the SWR 2021 composition workshop for orchestra and the TONALi20, awarded by a jury chaired by Sofia Gubaidulina.

Latest Commissions

Recent commissions include "Hundekolloquium" (2022-23) (Dog Colloquium) for Trio Clash at the 50th anniversary of the percussion ensemble of the HfM Freiburg, "Susurro de las Manos" (2023) (Hands Whisper) for the Ensemble of the .abeceda 2023 Festival in Bled Slovenia, "Cyanotypie" (2021-22) for the Festival Forum Neuer Musik 2022 of the Deutschlandfunk together with Ensemble Aventure.
